Walter Dexter (born 1931) is a potter, ceramic artist, and educator. Dexter received a diploma in ceramics from the Alberta College of Art in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and continued his studies at the Swedish School of Arts and Crafts on a scholarship. Dexter is recognized by the the ceramics community as a pioneer in Raku ware technique, as an educator, and also as a writer. from 1968-1974, he was head of the ceramics department at the Kootenay School of the Arts in B.C., Canada. Most of his work consists of vessel and plate forms decorated with dancing figures, a motif inspired from working with Paul Soldner. He currently maintains a studio practice and lives in Metchosin, B.C. with his wife, writer Rona Murray.
