Cologne ware, Grès-Cérame, Fr.
Stoneware of very singular forms and designs, made on the Rhine and in Flanders, and which was imported from Cologne in the sixteenth century. (Figs. 35 to 42.) In one of the Lansdowne MSS. mention is made, that in the year 1581, "the potts made at Cullein, called drinking stone potts," were first imported into England by Garret Tynes, of Aken, or Acon, (Aix-la-Chapplle) who had previously supplied all the Low Countries.
